Makerere University Council Member Visit

Dr. David K. Turahi, a member of Makerere University Council, was nominated to benchmark on the activities of various units responsible for various areas of Quality Assurance in the higher learning institutions and he visited both the University of Nairobi and Kenyatta University respectively from 9th to 13th October 2017.

The tour was a follow up of an earlier Benchmark visit last year on May 3, 2016, by a team from Makerere University’s Directorate of Quality Assurance led by the Director, Dr. Vincent A. Ssembatya and other team members. 

Dr. Tuhari paid a courtesy call on the UoN Vice-Chancellor’s office on October 11, 2017, and thereafter he was directed to visit the University of Nairobi’s Directorate of Quality Assurance office, at the Kenya Science Campus. He was received by the Quality Assurance team led by the Director Mr. Michael Wangai.

The agenda focused on the core functions and activities of the Directorate of Quality Assurance in ensuring the University achieve quality in their various service delivery processes. Dr. Tohari said that the greatest challenge facing higher learning institutions is in meeting the customer, regulatory, and statutory needs and requirements. Mr. Wangai on his part stated the importance of working as a team to enhance the quality of various services in the entire university.

Both the University of Nairobi and Makerere University have a long history of cooperation and collaborations. Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Tohari expressed the desire to have a continuous working relationship with the University of Nairobi in consultation with the respective Deputy Vice-Chancellors in charge of Academic Affairs. It was concluded that the two directorates will continue working together to improve the service quality in both universities.
