The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Regional office in Nairobi organized a regional workshop on Higher Education Institutions Statistics for Eastern Africa from 19th to 21st November 2018 at PrideInn Hotel in Westlands.

The training workshop aimed at helping producers of data in tertiary education to harmonize their statistics in order to facilitate the compilation at the national level, and comparison at the regional and global level. The workshop was an opportunity to build regional expertise and share countries’ experiences.

Officers in charge of the production and management of statistics for tertiary education from the 13 Eastern African countries namely Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles, Tanzania, Somalia, South Sudan and Uganda. The Ag. Director, Quality Assurance, Mr. Michael Wangai represented the University in the training.

Utilization of the international standard classification of education (ISCED 2011) fields when developing and revising academic programmes. This can be done through Mapping national classification fields of studies to UNESCO Institute of Statistics (UIS) standard classification fields of education.

Consider partnering with Global Development Network (GDN) and take advantage of opportunities in the region provided by the International Programme and Provider Mobility (IPPM) .

Familiarization of Faculties and Departments with UIS data collection tools for tertiary education statistics & IPPM

Measures to undertake in order to improve the Quality of existing data on higher education at all levels.
